Thanks for your interest in contributing to Foreign Policy Rising!
In our efforts to highlight diverse voices in foreign policy, we publish articles written by women and gender-nonconforming individuals.
Write for Foreign Policy Rising
We welcome voluntary submissions on any topic related to international politics or foreign policy. All submissions must be original and exclusive to Foreign Policy Rising. Please also note that the articles we publish are the authors’ own opinions and do not necessarily reflect the views of Foreign Policy Rising or its editors.
Wondering what to write about? Your article could be a reaction to a recent foreign policy decision, an international political event or a global trend. You could analyze a pressing international challenge or offer some potential solutions. Book reviews, interviews with academics or practitioners and short commentaries are also welcome. The main criteria is that you write about something that moves you.
Before you begin writing, send a short pitch to foreignpolicyrising@gmail.com outlining your main ideas. We’ll offer you some advice or tell you to go ahead and get started.
Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee we’ll publish every piece we receive. But if we accept your pitch, our editors will work with you and offer you constructive feedback along the way. Please keep in mind that the editing process can take a few weeks.
Style Guide
Articles should be around 800 words and written in your own voice. They should read like op-ed pieces rather than academic articles. We aim to reach a broad audience of readers, from academia to the general public, so that means avoiding excessive jargon.
We do not publish footnotes, endnotes or bibliographies, therefore please include hyperlinks to relevant and reliable sources of information or analysis. If you refer to or quote other sources, either directly or indirectly, make sure to provide links to them.
If you’re unfamiliar with the op-ed genre and need a more detailed guide, we recommend you take a look at these resources:
